How Well Do You Know Yourself?

Let's Get Started!

We all have things about ourselves that we'd like to change. One of those things are bad habits that we have. A bad habit can, in many ways, affect who you are. For instance, if you are biting your nails during a job interview (of course we all get nervous), that could prevent you from getting the job, or at least being considered for it. Just like not having a well balanced diet is also a bad habit.

Our bodies need nutrients and exercise, and when we don't give the body what it needs, we are risking the ability to be energized, to have clearer skin, or even to be slimmer. But the question is do you know what you're doing to your body? Do you understand the types of habits that you have? Well I can give you some sort of idea.

Consumer Profile
This here is a picture of something called a consumer profile. It essentially shows you the type of consumer that marketers would like to target. Many of us are like this consumer in the sense that:
  • we're college students
  • we do not go to the gym or exercise as much as we should
  • eating out is the normal
  • cooking (or cooking healthy meals) is relatively foreign
  • any decision we might make (whether it be to go for a walk or eat an apple instead of cookies) is usually influenced by our friends or social media influencers who we look up to.
Just think if you were the person who took it upon yourself to initiate a group walk with your friends or a cooking night with your family, you would be the person people look up to.

Binge Watching Matters...

Let's Get Started!

A girl looking at a laptopHope everyone is doing great; staying healthy, thinking about how your family is driving you crazy, all that good stuff. Now most of my blog posts have been about food (typically) and some exercise. But for this post I want to switch things up a bit. The main things that (almost) everyone has been doing on a daily basis is eating, attempting to exercise, possibly going for random market runs, and...binge watching tons of shows.

Painting suppliesThere is not one person that I know who doesn't love a good show that has about 6+ seasons. I'm sure there are still some people out there in the world who think that excessively watching every episode, of every season of a show is absurd. But those are the crazy people! Binge watching is something like a hobby, just like knitting, hiking, painting, singing, etc. and I've been told that everyone needs hobby.

Women looking at a phoneHere's another way of thinking about it. Binge watching a show(s), not only gives you something to do/ be invested in, it also connects you with others who understand the art of "binging". There have been plenty of times where I can recall mentioning a show I was watching, that then turned into a lengthy conversation. I personally think it's refreshing to have someone else to bounce your thoughts off of, because sometimes the turn of events in a show can make or break you; especially when you've become invested.

Man in front of a static tvSo in honor of all binge watchers everywhere, regardless of what you binge, I'm going to deliver a few binge worthy shows; as well as some really cool things to watch, to help us all pass the time.

"i CaNt gO tO tHe GyM bEcAuSe oF COVID-19" Says who??

Let's Get Started!

Question marks on a scaleMost of my blogs have been centered around eating healthy, but being healthy isn't just about what you put in your body. There many ways in which we can take care of our bodies, and exercising is one of them. I know, that's the last thing that some of us college students are thinking about. Most of us are just trying to make it through the semester. But exercising isn't just about 'gains' and 'summer bodies', its about treating the outside of your body the same as you would the inside.

Angry catExercising isn't as bad as many people may think. It seems as if most college kids in today's society are doing lots of exercising to get in shape. Now being healthy isn't always apart of everyone's every day lifestyle, but I think the influence from peers and people on the internet guide most of us to want to get in shape. Well, that and the fact that none of us wants to be 35, bald and chunky.

Let's think of some ways that you can exercise:

    Question mark
  • go for a walk/run
  • dance (you will definitely break a sweat)
  • clean up your room (silly I know, but trust me)
  • daily stretches
  • walk your pet
  • walk up and down your steps
  • go to the gym
Lightbulb
Now I'm aware that most of these options don't seem to be the most appealing. Quite frankly I'm sure some of them sound quite absurd, but honestly any movement that you do on a daily basis is a form of exercising because you're working your joints. But the typical thing to do is to go to the gym. Now because of the COVID-19 pandemic, gyms, like many other establishments, are closed. Closed gyms? Guess that means no exercising. Nope, wrong! There are plenty of ways to work out in the comfort of your own home; which is perfect since we're all quarantined anyway.

Woman staring out the windowMany people have been taking advantage of working out from home since there's nothing else to do. But I think everyone just wants abs for when summer comes and outside "opens back up". But for now, I'm going to give you some tips for working out at home.

6 Tips For Working Out At Home

  1. Eliminate distractions- find a way to zone out all of the things that could distract you such as phone notifications, that show you've been binge-watching, and even your family.
  2. Build a support system- getting motivated to start your work out can be difficult, so try working out with someone else; somewhat like an accountability buddy.
  3. Create a fitness space- having everything that you need in one spot can be very beneficial, as well as making that space distraction free.
  4. Schedule time to train- being at home can cause you to just work out whenever, but it can also cause you to get complacent; try setting an alarm or a reminder for a set time.
  5. Don't forget about your form
  6. Try some new moves

Post- Pandemic Plans

Let's Get Started!

Woman staring out of a window.
I've been thinking about how everyone has been holding up during this pandemic and I realized something, people are starting to get the hang of this quarantine thing. Granted there are a few things that all of us are missing right about now. I mean let's think about it, what are some of the things that we're used to having accessible day in and day out, that we haven't been able to have recently?
  • Malls/ Stores
  • Movie theaters
  • Gyms
  • Barber shops/ Hair salons
  • Restaurants
  • Human interaction
Man reading magazines
Granted some places have remained open, with some adjustments such as a minimum amount of customers and drive thru only, but the inability to go to our favorite places has been kinda hard on us all. But people have been finding ways to cope with being stuck in the house such as:
  • Lots of binge watching
  • Online shopping
  • The occasional stroll outside
  • Making Tik Toks
  • Attempting to be social with their families
  • Trying to cook more
  • Thinking of all the things they're going to do when the quarantine is over

Pen and crumpled paperOn the bright side, hopefully, this pandemic won't last forever. So everyone's plans will be in full effect once outside is "opened back up". So I think it would be a good idea to come up with a list of things that we want to do, to help us maintain sanity, and to make up for not being able to go out for the past month. So I'll start by making my list as a guide and then everyone else can make theirs.

My "Post- Pandemic Plans"

  • Get my nails done
  • Go see a movie
  • Buy a new pair of shoes
  • Pick a restaurant and dine in
  • Plan a get together of over 10 people
  • Get a gym membership
  • Go window shopping at the mall
  • Go to Walmart just to walk around and not buy anything
The list goes on...why don't you give it a try? START YOUR LIST NOW!
