Let's Get Started!
When I think of habits, I think of all of the ones that I have.
Let's see there's:
- nail biting
- procrastinating
- waiting until the last minute to do things/ go places
- spending money as soon as I get paid
..and the list goes on. Many students would probably agree to some of the same habits that I have. But one bad habit that a lot of us have is ensuring that we eat the recommended three meals a day.
Everyone knows that we should all have breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Of course breakfast specifically is claimed to be the 'most important meal of the day'. But is it really thank important if everyone skips it? Of course! Eating breakfast is a great way to get your day started on an upbeat note. Lunch in my opinion is just that meal that gives you that midday boost that you need to keep pushing through the rest of the activities for the day. Now dinner is the most important to me because it's that meal that signifies that you are done working for the night (of course that is not true for a college student).
Why is it that we skip meals though? Is it out of pure laziness? Perhaps. But I believe the main reason that college students skip meals or 'half-eat' is due to lack of time management. It feels like there are never enough hours in a day and trying to management the hours you have whether busy filled or lax, figuring out how to do the most/ make the most of those hours is crucial. However, eating should be a priority in the mix of everything else.
So here are a few tips to help get through the day while also focusing on what's important: EATING!
- Write down a list of all of the things that you have to do the next day (i.e. times, locations, etc.)
- Find the open slots in your schedule where you have time to grab a bite to eat.
- Take those times and spend at least 20-30 minutes winding down while eating breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
- If you are a busy body and have a limited amount of breaks in your day, try packing a meal and carrying it with you for the moments when you'll have to work and eat (multi-tasking is GREAT).
Remember that putting something on your stomach, like a bag of chips or an apple, is great; but the body needs nutrients and energy to run and function. So for those days that you feel sluggish and tired, ask yourself if you ate a meal that day.

Very helpful and practical tips!
