The “Rona” Blues: Staying Healthy During Quarantine

Let’s Get Started!

COVID-19
With the most recent outbreak of the Coronavirus (or Rona as many people have started calling it) many people have been placed under quarantine. With this happening many college students have been sent home for the remainder of their semester to work remotely. Now most people are thrilled about this because they get to in the one place they love, all the time; home. Others of course (one of which being myself) prefer to be on campus because that’s where we’ve spent the past few months & for us that is home. But let’s think about what being home entails:
  • No roommate (probably)
  • All classes online/ not having to walk to class or catch the shuttle
  • No fighting for washers and dryers
  • Having to bring all of your stuff home earlier than usual
  • Cooking for yourself

  • Lots of binge watching Netflix
  • Not being around your friends
  • Tons of Tik Tok videos
  • Limited access to food/ stores

When you think about being home & having to cook for yourself, the average college student doesn’t think of 3-course meals. Being under quarantine, many people will be passing their day by snacking on a ton of different items instead of making legit meals throughout the day. That method may actually give college students more than just the two and a half meals they were usually getting at school, but those items are not healthy meals or snacks.

But never fear, I'm going to give you a few tips on healthy eating during this time.
  1. Buy things like canned/ frozen vegetables.
  2. If you are going to buy a lot of meats, try portioning them and putting them in the freezer for later.
  3. Beans! These are a very cheap item and can be stored for a relatively long period of time.
  4. Keep comfort food items/ snacks handy (but eat them in moderation).
  5. Try meal prepping for a simple dinner.
  6. Lastly, try to plan times of the day when you're going to eat; and possibly what you're going to eat. Having a set schedule prevents you from sporadically eating everything in the kitchen.
